GUIDE FOR STUDENTS, FACULTY and STAFF

1. Hours of Operation

  1. Open Hours (Monday through Friday)
    8:45 – 20:00 (During the semester)
    8:45 – 17:00 (During vacations)
  2. Closures
    Saturday, Sunday, National Holidays, The New Year holidays (December 27 – January 4),Foundation Day, Peace Memorial Day (August 6)
    Subsequent changes will be posted on our website.

2. Borrowing Materials

  1. Circulation Policy

    • Students can borrow up to 10 materials including 5 periodicals.
    • Students may not borrow any materials until resolving all matters regarding overdue materials.
    • Faculty and staff can borrow up to 50 materials including 10 periodicals.
    • The following materials cannot be borrowed: Reference books, Rare books, Newspapers, The latest issues of journals, A part of AV materials, etc.
  2. Borrowing
    Your student ID or staff ID is required to check out all Library materials.
    Library materials can be borrowed at the counter or automated book circulation.
  3. Returning
    The books must be returned to the counter by the due date.
    Your student ID is not necessary for book returns. If the library is closed, put them into the book drop box next to the entrance.

  • Ichidai Learning Commons “Ichi-como(いちコモ)”
    Ichi-como is an active learning area to develop academic skills while promoting interactive and collaborative learning with each other.
    Available for reservation only by faculty and staff.
  • Reading Room
    Reference materials, Books, The latest issues of periodicals,
    The latest issues of newspapers, Audiovisual materials, etc.
  • Core Text Collections
    You can view books recommended by the lecturers for the courses they teach.
    Books with green circle stickers are available for loan.
  • Audiovisual Section
    The audiovisual materials are available for viewing here, except for your own personal items.
    Take the case of the software you wish to view to the counter.
  • Desktop Computers (Thin client desktops) area
    10 thin client desktops are available for use; they can be used to operate Microsoft Office software and the Internet access.
    HUNET account and password are required to log in.

    Glass-walled reading space with cafe-style chairs and open atmosphere.
  • Chi-no-Triathlon Corner (知のトライアスロンコーナー)
    Books and DVDs recommended by faculty, staff and students are located.

4. How to Search for Materials

OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) provides information about all materials housed in the library.
You may access the online catalog via the Internet from your home.
A listing of periodicals and newspapers is also available online.
The materials housed in the library can be viewed freely, whereas items held in the faculty rooms are restricted.

5. Other Services

  1. Reservations
    Books that are out on loan can be reserved and borrowed as soon as they are returned to the library. Place your reservations from OPAC by filling out a reservation form, or fill out a request form at the counter.
  2. Requests
    We accept requests for books and audiovisual materials.
    Please fill out a request form and turn it in at the counter.
    The library will purchase any books or materials that we deem necessary.
  3. Photocopying
    You may photocopy materials from the library as long as you are in compliance with Japanese copyright laws. Please fill out a form at the counter.

     

Charge:

Black and White ¥10 per sheet
Color ¥50 per sheet / Color (A3 size) ¥80 per sheet

  1. Reference
    We can give you advice and assistance in using the library, finding materials and searching databases, etc.
  2. Inter-library Loans
    Materials unavailable in our library can be ordered from other universities or facilities.
    It is possible to purchase photocopies of journal articles etc, and books can be borrowed for a limited time period. You can make a request at the counter or on the library website.
    Bear in mind that you will be responsible for all postage and copy charges.
  3. Laptop Computers (Thin Client Laptops)
    40 thin client laptops are available for loan in the library and within the University; they can be used to operate Microsoft Office software and the Internet access.
    HUNET account and password are required to log in.

GUIDE FOR GENERAL PUBLIC USERS

2. Borrowing Materials

  1. Registration
    Borrowers must be 15 years of age or over and residents of or commuters to Hiroshima city (Junior high school students are excluded).
    You need to obtain a Library Card to borrow.
    Please bring an identification carrying your address, such as a driver’s license, a student ID card, a passport or an alien registration card, to the counter.
  2. Circulation Policy
    You can borrow up to five books at one time for two weeks.
  3. Restricted Materials
    You may not borrow Reference Materials, Rare Materials, Newspapers, Periodicals, Audiovisual Materials, Core Text Collections and Materials in Faculty rooms, etc.
  4. Returning
    The books must be returned to the Counter by the due date. Your library card is not necessary for book returns. If the Library is closed, put them into the book postbox next to the entrance.
    You cannot reserve a book.
    You cannot borrow if you have an overdue book.
